Reflection

Digital storytelling could be used in many ways in the classroom. As a teacher I would use it to develop short skits for explanation of daily work. Both apps could be used to explain or review content. For example a beginning of the year photo story showing new students around the school and explaining the rules. Sock puppets could be used to review things like the short one I did for science. In the beginning the only drawback would be time setting down and putting it all together.  I believe once that is done the ease of use for students will make lessons more interesting and engaging.
Student use might be similar as students use Sock Puppets to make their own review skits or even just put together short, fun tutorials for other students. Projects on Sock Puppets would be quick and simple like practicing a concept used in math or language arts. Students could act as if they are teaching a lesson to another student. Perhaps even explaining something better than the teacher did.
On the other hand using an image based app like Shadow Puppets, students could put together book reviews, book reports, and even research project. Students could take pictures or look for photos to use on line. No matter what they choose it would be a lot better than just words on the page.
A photo walk through of a research project would require higher order thinking and get kids more actively involved as is expected with the new Common Core Curriculum.
